Self Build Courses

4 day Walter Segal self build course

Celebrating the legacy, 30 years on, of Walter Segal’s work for the aspiring self builder.  We will be learning about the modular system which simplifies design and construction & which enables affordable building for those who want to live in a more environmentally respectful, integrated and communal way.
Led by Duncan Roberts, Architect and former student of Walter Segal.  Duncan has worked in architects co-operatives in Hull & Glasgow & helped set up a short-life housing co-operative in Hackney, he is the former head of post-graduate Architecture programme at the Centre of Alternative Technology, Machynlleth &, amongst other things, has built his own house & office.
During the Course we will be building a functional structure to support a low impact land-based business.
The course is a mix between theory and practical. Morning theory sessions followed by practical building for the rest of the day. The evenings will include additional activities & the chance to discuss your own projects.
Course will include a public evening talk: ‘Time for a New Self Build Revolution: Taking inspiration from Walter Segal’s mutual aid self build approach’

You will need work clothes, wet weather gear and steel toe capped boots.
Six places available,  From evening of Monday 9th – lunch time Friday13th May, 2016.  £600 (£450 subsidised for low waged) including food and accommodation.
